Getting Your Jingle On!
By Sara Allen. I love Christmas ~ it really is the most wonderful time of the year! Sounding cliche I know... but I cannot wait to decorate the Tree and start thinking of all those favourite holiday Movies that are a must-watch this time of the year. Yes, it's time to brush off the Christmas to-do list and to help you get started, here are some great sites that just might have you jingling-all-the-way! The Christmas season is loved and celebrated by people all around the globe; for some it is a thankful time, with deep religious significance, and/ or the getting together with family, friends, help and share with others. Christmas is for everyone! 20 years ago, James Cooper from the UK founded www.whyChristmas.com a website that is all about Christmas. Want to find out more on Christmas traditions like how it is celebrated by different cultures around the world or where did the Christmas tradition of kissing under the mistletoe come from; this site is stacked-full of interesting facts and is an amazing resource for all things Christmas! https://www.whychristmas.com/about.shtml https://www.whychristmas.com/cultures/ https://www.whychristmas.com/customs/mistletoe.shtml [Note: it is not exactly what I thought it was... check the word meaning/translation of Mistletoe... ] Time to light it up! Don't you just love how people seem to get so creative with Christmas decorations and fairy lights. Christmas displays and lighting up the streets is one of the beautiful things about Christmas; you can take a stroll down Oxford or Regent Streets in London and also find many amazing winter light trails for your local area. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2020/oct/26/20-of-the-uk-best-christmas-winter-light-trails Of course, you can also check YouTube for some of the most incredible and many over-the-top displays like these (and thank goodness for solar powered lights!!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeAD7ODJdaU Christmas Markets are a tradition Of course this year might make things slightly less crowded or mean some of them will be cancelled. But Christmas markets are fast growing and fun tradition in the lead up to Xmas. They are great places to try some Christmas goodies, mulled wine and locally made craft beer, gingerbread, chocolates and gift ideas. Germany and many European cities are just amazing to visit before Christmas - again, for this year it might be much harder to do, but definitely worth checking out any local markets in your area, if they are allowed. Maybe you already have a Christmas Market Bucket List? I am still working on mine and can't wait for when I can grab my Passport, pack a wheelie bag and take off again! https://www.wander-lust.nl/best-christmas-markets-2019/ https://www.theresident.co.uk/london-culture-events/christmas-markets-london/ https://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/family/best-christmas-markets-uk-285009 Christmas Movies If you are like me, you will already have your firm favourites!
