Deep Breaths People!

Self-care isn’t all about sitting in a bubble bath and doing nothing for hours on end... doing something active can be equally as relaxing!

Yoga, Pilates and Meditation are great ways to relax whilst being active and can even be turned into a hobby by joining clubs or groups!

You can start at home by finding beginners guides on YouTube or online in general. There are some Yoga and Pilates videos available for free on the NHS website.

If you’re not sure which one to pick: Yoga includes breathing exercises and improving the flexibility of the body and joints, whereas Pilates concentrates on strengthening muscles. So, if you want to tune in with your body – Yoga might be the better option.

However, if you want to give your body a complete break, and solely concentrate on your mind - meditation might be the best alternative for you. Again, a quick online search can help you find tips to mediating. But to save you a Google search, here’s the basics:

  • Find somewhere peaceful to sit.

  • Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing.

  • Doing this for just 10 minutes every few days will help reduce stress and to look after yourself!

These activities allow you to relax your mind, whilst Yoga and Pilates will also work your body; and we’ve all read that exercise is one of the best ways to look after our bodies.

Just remember these activities are meant to be for self-care and when starting out; gentle movements in tune with your breathing are best and never over stretch yourself!
